Poinsettia fact

Poinsettias & Christmas

The ancient Aztecs (the Mexican Indians) prized the Poinsettia as a symbol of purity. Centuries later, Mexico's early Christians adopted the Poinsettia as their prized Christmas Eve flower. The Mexican poinsettia, known as the Christmas flower in North America, is used in most Christmas decorations, owing to its bright red color and its blooming season coinciding with the Christmas holiday season.

The Mexican poinsettias are commonly bright red. For some, these star-shaped bracts symbolize the Star of Bethlehem. The Christmas Poinsettia flowers have become a symbol of Christmas and are used in festive decor.

A Mexican legend explains how Poinsettias came to be associated with Christmas. Apparently, a child who could not afford a gift to offer to Christ on Christmas Eve picked some weeds from the side of a road. The child was told that a humble gift, if given in love, would be acceptable in God's eyes. When brought into the church, the weeds bloomed into red and green flowers and the congregation felt that they had witnessed a Christmas miracle.

The CHRISTmas Poinsettia is one of my favorite flowers, I love the classy look they give to any room, Amanda's Godparents are Hispanics and they say that in December the Poinsettia's grow all over the road sides in Mexico, we have a nursery in a nearby town that sells them and when you walk into the greenhouse's it looks like a huge red blanket is covering the tables, its just beautiful, Hmmm, maybe I can get Amanda to let me use her camera and go take pictures of the inside of the greenhouses so you can see for yourself, I sure hope Santa brings me a camera of my own. I'm off today and I am going to make it a mission of getting these boxes that have odds and ends in them out of here!! Hope all of you have a sweet Wednesday

I LOVE YOU~

Love you.
Oh how a pretty flower brightens everyone's day. I was at the grocery and noticed how beautiful all the flowers were. I paused and bent to smell the roses. The first date I went on with my husband I knelt at the curb to smell a flower and it blew him away. finding beauty in each day.

Annette it is so cold here, that I could not have brought a Poinsetia home, it would have frozen. But, thank you for all that info.
